From the moment you turn onto the property, you know that you are in for something special. Whistling Straits is unlike anything found in Wisconsin, the Midwest, and possibly the entire country. As you enter the clubhouse, you feel like you have transported to another part of the world.
As the host of three PGA Championships and the future host of the 2020 Ryder Cup, The Straits Course receives most of the fanfare at Whistling Straits. It is one of the most visually intimidating courses we have ever seen. There are holes where you can’t see the landing area off the tee, and then after you get to your drive…you can’t see the green surface on your approach. That being said, this course is very playable for both the skilled golfer and high handicapper. You will find a set of tees to your liking.
The Straits Course lives up to every inch of its reputation as a major championship venue. The Irish Course is one of the most underrated courses around. Its big brother gets most of the press, but The Irish is one amazing golf course. We love what Pete Dye does on the Irish Course. He lures you in with a front nine that is shorter, mostly downwind, and relatively benign. Then Dye turns you uphill and into the prevailing wind as you make the turn. You might not get the wonderful scenic views of Lake Michigan, but the course itself is still a Pete Dye masterpiece!
